Charles
Silverback males weigh about 400 pounds. Charles was scary when he first appeared because he was so simply BIG.
He studied us for a minute or two, then passed in front of us.
Right after this he stopped, turned to face us, and beat his chest to show that he was in command. We were all so startled that no one got a photograph of him beating his chest. He was BIG.
The gorillas started to feed...
and we watched for a few more minutes...
...and then our hour was up and it was time to go back down the mountain.
