About

Flamingos

Thousands and thousands of flamingos waded in the shallows of Lake Naivasha. They walk in the shallows, looking for food in the salty water. There are flamingos for miles along the shoreline, thousands and thousands of them (bottom right), and there is always a constant low burbling murmur as they talk to one another.

It wasn't easy to find one bird by itself.

Flamingos...

...make their home around lakes that are not drained by any river. Evaporation leaves salts behind and the water becomes alkaline. This alkalinity supports the waterlife the flamingos feed on.
