About

Rafting on the Nile

On our first full day in Uganda, we drove from Kampala to Jinja where the White Nile flows from Lake Victoria. This is the fabled Source of the Nile, long-sought by Victorian explorers and finally found by a man called Speke.

The rafting trip was a whole day, with about eight rapids and a leisurely lunch on an island in the river.

We were given the choice of overturning or not by our guides. I was in "The Prudent Boat" (below) and we chose to stay as dry as possible.

But immediately after launching, our guide required us to tip the raft so we could learn what to do if we were trapped underneath it, and how to get back into the raft from the river.
