About

Kenya Safaris

We travelled to wildlife parks at Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha northwest of Nairobi, and then southwest for three nights in the Maasai Mara, which is the Kenyan part of the Serengeti Plains. The resorts were luxurious and close to the wildlife. At night, hippos roamed the lawns outside the lodge at Lake Naivasha (above).

The pink areas at the edge of Lake Nakuru (below) are millions of flamingos.

The weather in Kenya was perfect. Every day was like this day in the Maasai Mara, seen here from the Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge.

At first I found it strange to be in such large, open spaces where wild animals were everywhere, where there was no evidence of humanity except for the dirt road, and where I couldn't get out of the van and walk around. Walking around was physically dangerous. At any time, you might meet a lion.

Herds of wildebeeste and zebra fill the plains.
