About

Entering Rwanda...

...took a couple of hours. This is the Ugandan side, looking into Rwanda, but the view of the mountains was much, much more attractive.

The Virunga Mountains are a chain of volcanic peaks. Not all are quiescent. One erupted in 1995 and showered an area to the south with ash. Several refugee camps where interahamwe genocidaires were living were affected.

Our time in Uganda was coming to an end. We drove into Rwanda and headed to the Gorilla's Nest resort close to the Virunga National Park, the Dian Fossey memorial, and the gorillas of "Gorillas in the Mist".

Welcome to the Republic of Rwanda

Routine delays at the border created an opportunity for these guys to try to persuade us to change our Ugandan into Rwanda money.

Everyone carries things on their head. Less common is the traditional dress which is being replaced by cheap used clothing from the developed world. That's where the young man with tie in Bukuku got his suit.
